The Disciple's Path DEVO - Day 9

Day 9: Praying for Others

Read
Nehemiah 1:4-7

We don’t know much about Nehemiah’s personal life. Was he carried into exile or born into exile? Was he an observant Jew before the events of this book, or did Jerusalem’s distress spark a kind of conversion moment to real faith?

We don’t know any of that, but we do know that Nehemiah prayed for others. Praying for others is called intercessory prayer. People often share with us things we can pray about. They might even ask us to pray for them. Often we say, “I’ll pray for you.”

What if, in addition to praying for others during our solo prayer time, we also prayed for people on the spot? Try it this week. When someone at church or a friend shares something you can pray about, ask, “Can I pray for you right now?”

Reflect:
Who has prayed for you? Who do you frequently pray for?

Pray:
Father, give me compassion to pray for others and the courage to pray on the spot with others. Amen.
