Because of Easter DAY 5

DAY 5 - UNBELIEVABLE PEACE

Philippians 4:4-7

Because Jesus is alive and in charge, we can have peace. The apostle Paul had unbelievable peace in his prison cell. He calls this “peace that passes all understanding.” He wrote, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Anytime we talk about anxiety, we need to be very clear about what we’re talking about because there are some forms of anxiety that are psychiatric disorders. This require focused counseling and medical attention.

But in general, we can say that anxiety is an ongoing unease about something while worry is deliberate unease. In his book, Anxiety, psychologist Dr. Archibald Hart says, “Worry is not an emotion but a mental activity that produces anxiety...an exercise that attempts to solve situations beyond our control...Worry is a pattern of thinking.” Worry is usually what the Bible has in mind when it says things like, “Don’t be anxious about anything.”

What can we do to find peace when our insides are churning with worry? Instead of suppressing our concerns or getting more worked up about them, pray. Talk to God about all the things banging like a cymbal in your brain. Share your frustrations. Pray in every situation because God wants you to have unbelievable peace.

REFLECT
When do you find it hardest to maintain peace and control over your reactions?

PRAY
Lord, you promise peace that passes all understanding. Give me your peace again today. Amen.
