DAY 14 - Think to Thank, Pt 1

Psalm 107:42-43
How does Psalm 107 help us to pray?

The answer is in v.42-43. V.42 says, “The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths.” You always want to be “the upright” when reading the Bible. It’s a sort of soft command, an invite to be this kind of person. You need to see and celebrate your salvation story.

Our songwriter develops this thought in v.43, “Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the LORD.” No more subtlety or soft commands. He’s spitting straight facts. If you’re wise, you’ll think about God’s loyal love. Psalm 107 repeatedly tells us to be grateful to God. We train ourselves in gratitude by thinking carefully on our life with God. Think about the mess we make and the cleanup God does. Think, thank. Think, thank. Think, thank.

We train ourselves to pray, “Thank you, God!” by thinking. The more you think, the more you’ll thank. That’s really not surprising. What do we call someone when they’re ungrateful? We say they’re “inconsiderate.” They fail to CONSIDER, to think, so they act without gratitude. The more you think, the more you’ll thank.

Take a few minutes to think about your life with God. What specifically are you grateful for in your own life? Where in your own day, week, year, or life have you seen God guiding you to good things? When has God helped you?

Thank you, God, for your loyal love! Thank for working good in my life in all these ways. Amen.
