Psalms DAY 5
DAY 5 - I Love You, Lord
Psalm 8:3-6
“I love you” is easy to say when you already know you’re loved. What would adoration look like in your life? How can you more easily say, “I love you, Lord?”
Think about God. Put away distractions and sit quietly by yourself. Go for a walk and think about what it means that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal. This God loves you! “I love you” is easy to say when you already know you’re loved.
Pay attention to the world around. Look at grass and sky, butterflies and bulldogs. See God’s glory in the heavens. Gaze up at the night sky, not to see that you’re so small and insignificant, but to know that God prizes you more than gas giants and galaxies!
Pray through a portion of Scripture, especially a psalm. Use the Bible’s words as your words of prayer. Turn a favorite hymn or praise song into a prayer by praying the lyrics.
Of course, it helps just to get more comfortable saying, “I love you, Lord,” when you pray.
Above all, the clearest picture we’ve ever seen of God’s goodness and love is Jesus Christ. Romans 5:8 says, “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Hebrews 2:9 connects Jesus to this very psalm to show just how far God goes to save us and show his love. Jesus “was made lower than the angels for a little while.” He became one of us, but he’s “now crowned with the glory and honor” God always wanted for us. He earned that glory “because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.”
You’re already loved, more than you can imagine, more than you deserve. More than anything else, Jesus Christ is how God says, “I love you.” Why not say it back?
REFLECT
Is is easy or hard to say, “I love you, Lord?”
PRAY
I love you, Lord. Thank you for loving me. I pause now to stay in this moment and feel your love for me. Amen.
