Revelation Day 28 - Fight!
DAY 28
Fight!
Revelation 11:1-14
Tell the truth about God.
That’s our job - to witness and prophesy. But why does God give us that job? Look again at Rev 11.
John measures God’s temple. Everything inside that line is safe, but everything outside gets trampled. Then the two witnesses show up, make a big splash, and are killed. People throw a party. Three days later, they bounce back, and get invited to be with God. Sounds familiar…wait, it sounds just like Jesus!
What’s going on? Revelation says we’re in a world that, for the most part, doesn’t want God. We live in a war zone, good vs. evil raging on. We have to fight! But how do we fight? With our witness. God calls us to tell the truth because our witness is our weapon.
The Church has no other weapon than to tell the truth about God. But we often fight with other weapons, thinking that the ends justify the means.
For example, we’re tempted to fight a culture war, debating every social issue that comes along. Of course, the gospel has consequences for our values and customs, and we have some obligation to speak about those. But we have to be careful. The Christian’s job is telling the truth about Christ, not convincing everyone to agree with our opinions. Many people, Left and Right, fight the culture wars with intimidation, bullying, and fear.
Those aren’t our weapons. Truth is the weapon God uses to fight and win against evil. God’s not forcing anything on anyone. The gospel shines a light on the darkness in our own lives. Then, through our words and our actions, the gospel shines a light on the darkness around us.
REFLECT
How is truth a weapon? Why is it unique from the way we often fight with others?
PRAY
Lord, you are my shield and my fortress. Protect me! Don’t let me fight for your cause with anything other than the truth of the gospel. Amen.
