Be Ready
Sunday, August 10, 2025
Last week we heard the story of a man, a farmer, blessed by an abundant harvest. It was so great he had nowhere to store it. He chose to tear down the barns and build bigger barns. Unfortunately, he was only thinking of himself and this temporal life. Instead, he could have considered how he might be generous sharing with others in need and praising God for his good gifts.
Where our treasurers are is evidence of the condition of our heart based on what is temporary without regard to what is eternal. Following this scripture, Jesus reminds us not to fear or worry what we will eat, wear, depending on our heavenly father to provide. We can be short sighted by only thinking of this life. However, we are told to not store up treasures here as one day Christ shall return.
It is God's good pleasure to give us the kingdom of God for we are his children.
How do we prepare and be ready for the kingdom?
What does that kingdom look like?
Is the kingdom something material or is it the freedom from the bondage of living for things in a material world?
So many questions! This week we will ponder the kingdom and kingdom living in light of the world we live in and the kingdom Jesus speaks about. How is living different in light of the two? This is our challenge and dilemma as God's children.
